We Walked the Talk – NAMI NC 2012
On Saturday, May 4 2013, New Hope Treatment Centers was honored to sponsor and participate in the 2013 North Carolina NAMIWalk. What is NAMI, you may ask? And why do we walk?
Good Question! NAMI stands for the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. Mental illness is one of the Nation’s most misunderstood and under-resourced issues. NAMI advocates for access to services, treatment, supports and research and is steadfast in its commitment to raise awareness and build a community of hope, both nationally and at the local level.
Why we walk…for NEW HOPE!
Every journey begins with that first step! NAMIWalks celebrated its 11th Anniversary in 2013 and has become the largest and most successful mental illness awareness event in America! This year, tens of thousands of concerned citizens in more than 84 communities across the nation will join NAMI and walk together to raise money and awareness for mental health issues. NAMI North Carolina held their annual walk and fundraiser on May 4th in Raleigh NC.
How did New Hope Support the Cause?
For the past two years, New Hope has supported NAMI-NC with a financial contribution only. This year, we took it one step further by organizing a group of employees to walk and fundraise as part of TEAM NEW HOPE. With 7 walkers, TEAM NEW HOPE was able to raise over $1,200 dollars to support the cause, thanks to donations from family, friends, and employees of New Hope. These funds will be used to support NAMI programs across North Carolina, including education, support and advocacy involving depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder.
