Key Components of Treatment

Assessment
Formal and informal multi-source assessment begins as part of the intake process and continues throughout the treatment course. Specific assessment components include:

• a comprehensive psychosocial assessment
• a crisis management plan
• an educational assessment including an independent living skills component
• a full recreational assessment
• substance abuse assessment
• physical examination
• psychiatric assessment
• vision, speech, and hearing screenings
• dietary assessments
• functional analysis of psychotropic medication management.

Sexually aggressive residents receive a comprehensive psychosexual assessment, including the Abel Assessment of Sexual Interest (AASI) and the Juvenile Sex-Offender Assessment Protocol (J-SOAP–II). Polygraph examinations are also available throughout the treatment course as needed.
Mentally Retarded or Developmentally Delayed residents receive a functional analysis of adaptive behavior to further identify strengths and specific areas to be addressed. Psychological evaluations and neuropsychological screenings are also available. New Hope contracts with a full array of ancillary medical providers should the resident require further diagnostic evaluation and/or treatment while in care.
