Key Components of Treatment Family Matters Family Matters is New Hope’s response to the difficulty some families present in being able to participate in the therapy process and who are often a distance from their child. We are committed to involving the family throughout the treatment process and will offset the costs associated with travel to facilitate this important treatment component. New Hope provides for transportation, lodging, and meals for two non-local family members twice per year. Transportation is also available for local families to facilitate therapy or visitation. Family Matters weekends are offered for all programs and include structured activities both on and off grounds. The weekend begins with an orientation to New Hope and a discussion of the daily activities. Support groups and educational sessions are held throughout the weekend to offer the opportunity to talk with other parents and treatment providers. Family therapy sessions address the individual treatment needs of the residents. The residents participate in a variety of activities including therapeutic games and a shopping trip based on their behavior and levels. This provides time for the family to spend with the resident, learning and supporting the resident’s efforts in treatment. In addition, residents typically present a talent showcase chosen for the weekend. The Family Matters weekends are both educational and fun, and participants have consistently given an overall excellent rating of the event. |
