Phases of Treatment

Initial Phase

The primary goals of the Initial phase are to introduce the resident to the treatment process and the therapeutic community. Residents practice simple rehearsal exercises to gain confidence in the community and are introduced to some basic principles of the therapeutic process. Each adolescent is expected to make a commitment to treatment by participating in all components of the program. The fundamental task of the Initial Phase is for the adolescent to acknowledge that s/he behaves in a manner which is counter to societal standards.
