Phases of Treatment Insight Phase In the Insight Phase of treatment, the resident strives to gain increased awareness and understanding of himself, his behaviors, and attitudes, thinking patterns, and emotions. Using what he has learned in all aspects of his treatment, he explores the events, influences, behaviors, emotions, and choices that developed into a pattern of socially inappropriate behaviors. Our 20+ years of experience working with youth suggests that this type of behavior usually follows a very predictable pattern or cycle of thinking. Gaining a full understanding of this cycle allows residents to gain control over the aberrant behavior by intervening at key junctures or avoiding high-risk situations. Development of the individualized Cycle of Abuse is the primary milestone of the Insight Phase. Each resident learns their unique patterns of thoughts and behaviors and discusses it thoroughly with his therapist, the community, and his parents or treatment ally. |
