World Human Rights Awareness Day

On Friday, December 10, 2021 the New Hope Carolina’s Youth Advisory Board held and interactive display in the lobby  of the facility to celebrate World Human Rights Awareness Day.  Human Rights day is observed every year on December 10th is the date that the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human rights (UDHR) in 1948.  Each hear, Human Rights Day has a different theme.  This year’s theme is “Equality” and how rights are the beginning of peace within societies, and a way to create a fairer society for future generations.  Our residents created a banner that says “Our hands change the world for equality.”  They made a display that featured different facts about Human Rights Day and each child at New Hope was able to put their handprint on the banner that will hang in the lobby throughout December.  The youth received small gifts celebrating diversity around the world.  There was also a special overhead announcement that morning made by one of our youth from announcing the celebration and inviting residents to participate and leave their “mark” for human rights.

Great job to all involved!
