Mental Health Awareness

May 10, 2022 Uncategorized

The staff and kids of New Hope recognized and celebrated Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week.  The purpose was to celebrate and honor mental health awareness and help those facing mental health concerns know that they aren’t alone, help is out there, and they can recover.

Our Youth Advisory Board came up with the tag line for Children’s Mental Health Awareness here at New Hope:

NEW MINDS, GOOD VIBES, SAVE LIVES!

Some of the “special effects” to celebrate:

green ribbons were given out to all staff to wear.

-all residents received a green bracelet with New Minds, Good Vibes, Save Lives on it.

Friday May 6th was “wear green day” for youth and staff.   All youth enjoyed a special green cupcake.

-the water tower in our hometown of Rock Hill was lit in  green for Mental Health Awareness.

Why Green?

To combat bias and discrimination! In the 1800s, the color green was used to brand people who were labeled “insane.” The children’s mental health community decided to continue using the color green, but with a completely different focus. Green signifies new life, new growth, and new beginnings. Therefore, we wear green ribbons to raise public awareness, better the lives of children with serious emotional disorders and show our support of these children and their families.

We are very proud of the effort put forth by our youth, especially our Youth Advisory Board, and staff to celebrate and honor such an important cause!  You go YAB!

The bracelets read:  New Minds, Good Vibes, Saves Live
