May 28, 2025 Success Stories

Rock Hill, S.C., May 28, 2025 – New Hope Treatment Center’s humbly and honorably awarded the inaugural Dr. George Orvin Scholarship to a current direct-care staff member in 2021.

The scholarship was awarded to Raven Gary, daughter of Gennelle Gary, a Team Leader coming up on her 10-year anniversary at New Hope in our LEAP program. Raven received the $5,000 scholarship for four consecutive years, beginning the 2021-22 school year, totaling $20,000 in aid. Raven is set to graduate in December from the University of South Carolina. In addition, Raven plans to work in the healthcare field, so the investment not only benefits her, but also those she will help in the future. Upon graduation, Raven will be working at Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, SC’s Capstone Clinical Preceptorship, where she was recently accepted.

“I wanted to sincerely thank New Hope for this amazing opportunity for my daughter,” said Gennelle. “I wanted to express how much help it was for her future and career due to it being provided by New Hope’s gratitude”.

Raven’s success now opens the door for more exciting news; New Hope reopened the application process for 2025. An internal committee that is representative of our workforce will review all applications and determine the award recipients. They will award the scholarship based on the applicant’s “why and how.” Simply, why is this scholarship important to the applicant and how will the recipient use the opportunity to benefit others?

With the amazing reception from the Gary family and the outstanding opportunity it provided, New Hope will be awarding two $5,000 scholarships in 2025 that will be applicable each academic year for two and four-year programs. Scholarships will automatically renew year-over-year for awardees who maintain a 3.0 GPA until completion of two or four-year programs.

“New Hope is a family organization, and we want to invest not only in the families we serve but the families of our great workforce,” said CEO Eric Baumgartner.
