New Hope Set to Start with Compassion

April 7, 2025 New Hope Happenings

Rock Hill, S.C., April 7, 2025 – New Hope Treatment Center’s is embarking on a cultural shift, adding a new mantra and an updated set of core values.

At the end of 2024, New Hope’s CEO, Eric Baumgartner, was compelled to action after reading the incredible book, Compassionomics by Stephen Trzeciak, MD. The book is an eye-opening look into how the act of compassion is the true differentiator in healthcare outcomes. The same treatment can be administered by an uncompassionate provider and have less impact than the care provided by someone who is compassionate. And the data clearly shows that compassion is a skill that can be taught and developed.

“We talk a lot about trauma-informed care in the mental health space, but I’m afraid that term at times has become overly academic and clinical and doesn’t translate across the board in a multidisciplinary team setting”, said COO Matt Simon, MA, LMFT. “Compassion, does. So, at every turn, we are going to START WITH COMPASSION. Compassion is an action; compassion towards our youth and families, towards each other, and towards ourselves”.

This is going to be more than just a mantra; this is going to be the foundation for what New Hope is known for going forward.  New Hope will be embedding a culture of compassion into training, orientation, pre-hire screenings, performance evaluations, the start and end to staff meetings, along with creating a practice of daily Loving Kindness Meditations for staff prior to clocking in for shifts.

“The data is clear that the more we practice the act of compassion in our day-to-day interactions with each other and with those we serve, our outcomes and success as an organization is going to increase”, said Simon. “As we start this journey together, we thought it was a perfect time to make a change in our company values to reflect the things that matter the most to us now and moving forward into the future”.

New Hope is officially unveiling the E.P.I.C. Values: Excellence, Professionalism, Integrity and of course, COMPASSION. This is what is expected of staff and each other. These are the traits that people should think of when they leave an interaction with a New Hope team member, whether it’s an interaction with the CEO or one of the amazing third shift Residential Counselors.

New Hope is building upon an incredible 40-year legacy and looking ahead to the next 40 years.
