New Hope to Support Suicide Prevention
Rock Hill, S.C., May 7, 2025 – New Hope Treatment Center’s will be a proud sponsor at the Seven Eleven Memorial Golf Tournament, hosted by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
The Seven Eleven Memorial Golf Tournament is set to take place on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the Tega Cay Golf Club. The annual event unites the community in raising awareness on mental health and suicide prevention, with a focus being on veterans, young adults, and the broader population. The tournament is being held to raise funds for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, in honor of Andrew Nims.
“Through this journey, I’ve come to recognize the importance of mental health awareness,” said Andrew’s mother, Sherry Nims. “My son Andrew proudly wore the ring of The Citadel, graduating in 2015. He battled silently, never showing outward signs, yet tragically, we lost Andrew on May 27, 2023”.
In its previous iteration, the tournament successfully raised over $33,000 for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). The 2025 event aims to surpass that amount, with all proceeds supporting AFSP’s “Out of the Darkness Walk” and other suicide prevention initiatives. AFSP remains dedicated to safeguarding those who serve, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing suicide prevention among veterans, police, and military personnel.
“Andrew was a man of charisma, humor, and warmth, with high integrity, traditional values, and a deep love for family and friends,” said Sherry. “He married his wife Abbygail in 2017, and together, they had a five-month-old baby girl when Andrew passed. Like so many who succumb to suicide, he was a beacon of light, a truly good person, whose loss is deeply felt. If our efforts for this cause save even one life, they are undeniably worthwhile”.
The mission of the tournament is to raise funds for suicide prevention initiatives, remove the stigma surrounding suicide and mental health and encourage those struggling to seek help. New Hope’s presence will aim to support that mission with two participating groups of four.
