Reaching New Heights with ATSA, Research, Treatment, and Partnerships

October 19, 2012 News

New Hope Treatment Centers is currently exhibiting at the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers (ATSA) 31st Annual Research and Treatment Conference in Denver Colorado (October 17-20, 2012). According to Kurt Bumby, PhD and Mary Perrien, PhD; ATSA’s President and Conference Chair respectively, “the ‘Mile High City’ and the surrounding landscape provide a perfect backdrop for the conference theme, ‘Reaching New Heights: The Promise of Research, Treatment, and Partnerships’”.

The vibe here in Denver CO is one of optimism, encouragement, and hope in regards to working with this specialized population.  ATSA’s mission of “preventing sexual abuse through sound research, informed policy, and effective practice” is one New Hope Treatment Centers emphatically supports. The goal of the conference is to advance the knowledge and skills of professionals providing services in the field of sexual abuse.

Throughout this conference, increased attention has been given to the Good Lives and Self Regulation models for working with the sexually offensive population. With only 35% of treatment facilities in the US currently utilizing this model, I am pleased to report that New Hope Carolinas is one of them. New Hope has been implementing this treatment model for several years now and has seen positive outcomes. Way to go New Hope for staying on the cutting edge of research and treatment within the field!!!

As a sponsor of this event, New Hope would like to thank the ATSA Conference Planning Committee who worked diligently for several months to develop a program that would reflect this year’s theme as well as appeal to a broad array of interests, highlight emerging research, and encourage professional growth within the field. New Hope is honored to be a part of this year’s conference and will continue to support ATSA in the years to come.
